Kouw Park Stairway & Beach Access Closed

Lake Michigan water levels are reaching historical highs and have caused significant beach loss and dangerous erosion. These combined factors have forced Port Sheldon Township to close the stairway at Kouw Park and all access to the beach.

The steps to the beach area are closed, however the walkway to the overlook deck remains open.

Please do not use the dunes to access the beach as damage to dune grass and shifting sands will accelerate the already damaging erosion issues.

The park, playground, restrooms and gazebo remain open for summer enjoyment.

Thanks for your cooperation.
